15mm ARAB CONQUEST 622 AD - 873 AD AVAILABLE NOW!

ARAB CONQUEST 622 AD - 873 ADC

This range covers the wars of the Prophet and his immediate successors: the Rashidun and Umayyad Caliphates.
The figures can also be used for the early Abbasid Caliphate.
The standard formation until 638 was an infantry centre and two infantry wings, with any cavalry grouped into an extra command used for outfianking or as a reserve. After 638 a large quantity of captured horses and armour was available and initially about half of the new permanent "Jund" forces became cavalry. Jund were settled in large permanent military encampments in conquered territory intended to insulate the Arab fighting men from less warlike natives and prevent them being absorbed and diluted. However, multiple native wives producing children had somewhat the same effect as well as greatly increasing Jund numbers in the following period. Little use was yet made of non-Arab troops.
Even rich city Arabs had their children fostered by nomads and the poor often worked as caravaneers.

To quote an Arab general in 635, "In the days of the Ignorance, 100 Persians could put to flight 1,000 Arabs, but now, God be praised, 100 Arabs can put to flight 1,000 Persians."

This range has been realized by Red Copper Miniatures, based on their own study and research before sculpting. The handmade individual design and 3D printing technology allows them to develop their own characteristic style, versatile for 15mm and 28mm, with great detail and functionality, but without losing the personality of each model. Red Copper Miniatures models combine respect for historical rigor and the freshness and epic of attractive designs, with new, varied, dynamic and unique poses.
We print them on demand with very high definition machines using our own blend of different resins to achieve superb detail and
plastic like material properties.

Red Copper Miniatures are LARGE 15mm that would mix well with Xyston and Legio Heroica (sometime referred to as 18mm).
If you prefer we can reduce them in size to "standard" 15mm to match our own or Essex miniatures!

Also available as 1:72 or 28mm on demand!

Infantry are described in contemporary accounts as swordsmen, often mailed, although the armour was generally worn under the kaftan. They are usually mentioned resisting stubbornly rather than charging wildly, except for exceptional individuals, often the commanders, throwing themselves into the enemy seeking martyrdom.

Arab Light Cavalry

Before the New Kingdom, the Egyptian armies were composed of conscripted peasants and artisans, who would then mass under the banner of the pharaoh. These soldiers carried a simple armament consisting of a spear with a copper spearhead and a large wooden shield covered by leather hides. Cheap to mass produce and simple to use, during the New Kingdom it remained the weapon of choice for conscripted and mercenary troops. This does not means it was regarded as an inferior weapon however, it was appreciated enough to be depicted in the hands of Ramesses III himself, killing a Libyan!

Until the capture of herds at the battle of Hunain in 630, settled Muslims had insufficient camels to entirely mount a body of foot, men instead taking turns to ride and the body moving at foot pace. Afterwards however, all foot were often mounted on camels.

Arab Civilians

Libyans seem to have been of little concern to the powerful, expansive, and militaristic Egyptian state but in the 13th and 12th centuries B.C. there lead repeated attempts (often partially successful) to invade and occupy Egypt’s western and even central Delta. These invasions may have ultimately failed, but by 1200 BC, substantial numbers of Libyan and Sherden mercenaries were supplanting native Egyptian troops in the army. Libyans, along with other armed foreigners, were even included in the (predominantly Egyptian) military escort of the Pharaoh.
